White Truffles Food for Gods

Depending on size and quality, truffles range from 65-125 dollars per ounce. They are found in the oak and chestnut forests of Italy and the Istrian Peninsula in Croatia and Slovenia. Farmers used to rely on pigs to unearth truffles, but the pigs often ate the delicacies. Modern truffle hunters use specially trained dogs. When to eat them: The season begins in September and lasts through December. How to eat them: White truffles taste best when they are served uncooked. Shave them over pasta or omelets or toss in a salad. What do they taste like?: Earthy. Garlicky. Pungent. Mushroomy. Economical alternative: White truffle oil.
